Background

Ronan McSorley was born in the north of Ireland in the early 1980s. Later, he received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of East London and worked for many years across public mental health services and private practice.

In 2025, Ronan discontinued his clinical work to focus exclusively on making art. He works primarily in oil on linen and linocut on paper. His process begins with the careful selection of overlooked images such as old snapshots, historical documents and fragments of forgotten film. He distills each image to its essential elements, drawing out the psychological undercurrents embedded within. Through deliberate cropping, reimagined color, and interpretive reworking, the images take on new forms and meanings.

Ronan now resides in Philadelphia. His work is held in private collections in Ireland, England, and throughout the United States.
